Walking not your thing?
On Tuesday we let you know about a great national initiative taking place in North Bay on Saturday February 21st – the “Coldest Night of the Year Walk”. Now, we realize that walking for 10, five, or even 2km on the coldest night of the year, may not be everybody’s cup of tea – or hot chocolate, it you will. Luckily, there’s another way for you to give back to the North Bay community on Saturday February 21st. And even if it won’t keep you much warmer, it will definitely get you moving faster.
That’s right, the North Bay Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is holding its annual Snow Machine Poker Ride, dinner, and dance (full details included below). Although, we’re not participating in this year’s run due to our prior commitment with the North Bay Coldest Night Walk, we are volunteering to help make sure everything runs smoothly and a great time is had by all. For those of you not familiar with the ‘poker ride’ concept, at least at as it is in North Bay, let’s begin by making sure nobody thinks we’re doing this in speed boats – snow machines all the way! That said, the basic idea is to follow a trail, picking up cards along the way. The rider with the best poker hand at the end of the journey is the winner. Or, as the folks at Habitat say…
It’s not just the ladies that will go gaga over this event! Men, boys, girls, pooches, cute bunnies, startled squirrels, all the small woodland rodents – positively EVERYONE is going to have a great time on this snow machine poker ride! Running through the beautiful North Bay and area trail system, at the time of year when the temperatures are just right, followed by a dinner to warm you up and a dance to get you hot hot hot (I can almost guarantee that song will be played!)
It’s still not too late to register. The details are included below. If you’d like to participate, you can contact Habitat at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 705.495.6244
