Nice Night for a Walk
The ATM Man is very proud to be a sponsor of, and participant in, the North Bay edition of this year’s “Coldest Night of the Year Walk” to be held on Saturday February 21st. The Coldest Night of the Year Walk is a fantastically fun, family-friendly walking fundraiser that raises money for the hungry, homeless and hurting in 80+ communities across Canada.
To date, almost 10,000 walkers have registered approximately 2,000 teams, in 80 locations across the country. Twenty-five thousand donors have already pledged a total of more than $1,300,000, putting the organization almost halfway towards reaching the goal of $3,000,000. The total distance covered by the walkers is expected to surpass 55,000 km.
Produced by bluesea philanthropy, the two, five and 10km walks provide participants the opportunity to experience a hint of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness while raising much needed revenue for respected local charities. Since 2011, the Coldest Night of the Year has raised $4.9 million dollars through the tireless efforts of each of the event organizers, participants, and local charity partners.
Funds raised from the North Bay edition of the Walk are directed to The Gathering Place, a charity serving people living in poverty in North Bay. It’s great to know that shivering in the cold for a few hours, gives us not only an understanding of the troubles facing other folks, but also impacts hundreds of lives in a positive way, helping build a bright future that once seemed out of reach.
We’ve worked with The Gathering Place on a number of initiatives over an extended period of time and can attest to the value of this organization and the dedication and talents of its members. The Gathering Place, North Bay’s Community Soup Kitchen, provides a hot meal in a warm environment to those in need. It is a non-profit, non-denominational organization that strives to bring hope and healing to North Bay’s hungry. Since opening in 2003, The Gathering Place has served over 270,000 meals to people in need throughout the North Bay community.
We’ve set a goal of $100,000 for the North Bay Walk and I’m confident the community will pull together hit that goal on February 21st.
On February 21st we are walking together and invite you to walk with us. It’s cold out there but not cold enough to stop us from hitting our goal of $100,000.
And with 4 days left until the event, it is still not too late donate. Simply visit coldestnightoftheyear.org to find out how – or feel free to contact us directly and we’ll get you set up. You can also follow @coldest_night on Twitter to get all the latest news, factlets, tips, and quips.
